# Glossary

The words ToolboxFM uses, and what they mean here.

Some of these words mean something more specific in ToolboxFM than they do on the project. Where that is the
case, the difference is the point.

## Project

A physical place you manage. The top of the hierarchy — every zone, work activity, diary entry and
subcontractor belongs to exactly one.

## Zone

An area inside a project that you track separately. Has a lifecycle: pending, active, closed.

## Exclusion zone

A zone that only one work activity may hold at a time. This is what stops two crews turning up to the
same lift at the same hour.

## Work activity

One crew, one job, one zone, one time window. The unit that approvals, the day board, pause and
close-out all attach to.

## Blocking

What an approved work activity does to its exclusion zone while it is scheduled or active. A pending
request does not block.

## Bumped

Said of a work activity that has been approved over on its exclusion zone. Worked out when the page is
read, not stored.

## Overdue

Either running past its window, or never started. Both are rescued with **Extend**.

## Close-out

The questions asked about a finished work activity. Asked afterwards rather than blocking the end,
because most activities finish without anybody pressing a button.

## Head Office

The name of the organisation-wide role. Not tied to a single project.
